Frequently asked questions

Why does 35% of the bottom need to stay clear?
The Reels UI stacks your profile name, caption, audio attribution, the CTA button and the icon rail into the bottom third of the screen. Any text or logo you place there gets covered on a real phone - the mockup draws the zone so you see the collision before your audience does.
Do Stories and Reels have the same safe zones?
No. Stories have a lighter interface and lose roughly the bottom 20%; Reels lose 35%. Design one 9:16 asset to the Reels zones and it is automatically safe on Stories - which is why Meta's own unified guidance uses the Reels numbers.
Should I design for sound off?
Yes. A large share of Reels and Stories views happen muted or in contexts where the first second decides. Burn captions into the video inside the safe zones, and make the first frame carry the offer without audio.
Can I run a static image as a Reels ad?
Meta will accept and adapt a static image for vertical placements, but Reels is a video surface and static creative typically underperforms there. If video is out of reach, a simple animated cut of your image with burned-in text beats a stretched still.
